The decision of the trial of Alexey Navalny

82% of Russians know about the decision of the trial of Alexei Navalny. Twenty-six percent had followed the events closely, while 56% had heard something. Young people and those aged 55 and older followed the events most closely – 32% each.

Almost half of the respondents (48%) believe the decision of the trial of Alexei Navalny was fair, while 29% hold the opposite view. 23%found it difficult to answer.

At the same time, only 35% of respondents aged 18-24 years old consider the decision fair, half of the respondents in the group (50%) consider it unfair. Among respondents aged 55 and older, 60% consider the decision fair, and 19% consider it unfair.

Among those who consider the decision unfair, 61% would like Alexei Navalny to be released as soon as possible. 30% of those who think the decision is unfair do not care. 8% would not want the politician to be released.

The wording of the questions was compiled in cooperation with Open Media.

This survey was conducted March 25 – 31, 2021, among a representative sample of all Russian urban and rural residents. The sample was comprised of 1623 people aged 18 or older in 137 municipalities of 50 regions of the Russian Federation. The survey was conducted as a personal interview in respondents’ homes. The answer distribution is presented as percentages of the total number of participants along with data from previous surveys.

The statistical error of these studies for a sample of 1600 people (with a probability of 0.95) does not exceed:

3.4% for indicators around 50%

2.9% for indicators around 25%/75%

2.0% for indicators around 10%/90%

1.5% for indicators around 5%/95%
