More than a half (57%) of Russians are not afraid to get infected with coronavirus, 41% are. This trend has remained stable since February 2021.
54% of Russians are not ready to get vaccinated against coronavirus, 25% are ready, 19% said that they have already done it. The share of those who are not ready to get vaccinated is decreasing – from 62% in April 2021, to 54% in June.The most noticeable increase in the number of those who answered that they had already been vaccinated-from 10% in April to 19% in June.
Note that until June 2021, the wording of the question sounded like this: “Are you personally ready to get vaccinated with the domestic Sputnik V vaccine?”
The respondents of the age groups 18-24 and 40-54 are most ready to be vaccinated (27% each), the respondents of 25-39 years are the least ready – 22% are ready, 65% are not ready. The most” vaccinated ” age group remains Russians 55 years and older – 25%, the least “vaccinated” – respondents 18-24 years (11%).
Among those who are afraid of contracting coronavirus, 37% are ready to get vaccinated, and 20% have already been vaccinated. Among those who are not afraid of getting infected, only 16% are ready to get vaccinated, and 19% have already been vaccinated.
The willingness to get vaccinated and the share of those already vaccinated is higher among those who approve of Vladimir Putin’s activities: 31% are ready to get vaccinated, 45% are not ready, 22% said that they have already been vaccinated. Among those who do not approve of the president’s activities, only 14% are ready to get vaccinated, 71% are not ready, 14% said that they have already been vaccinated.
The most popular reason for refusing vaccination is the fear of side effects of the vaccine (33%), another 20% believe that it is necessary to wait for the end of the tests, 16% are sure that it makes no sense to get vaccinated.
Among those who are not ready to get vaccinated, 41% are not going to do it under any circumstances. Another quarter (24%) will be ready to get vaccinated when all the tests have passed and there are guarantees of vaccination safety. 7% said that they would be ready to get vaccinated only under duress.
More than half of Russians (58%) do not anyhow support mandatory vaccination against coronavirus. At the same time, more than a third (39%) do not support it at all. 38% of Russians support mandatory vaccination in one way or another.
Mandatory vaccination is most popular among Russians 55 years and older: half of the respondents (48%) in this group support this idea, 49% do not support it. This idea enjoys the least support among respondents aged 25-39 years: only 26% support it, 72% do not support it.
Among those who are afraid of getting infected, half of the respondents (52%) support mandatory vaccination, 47% do not support it. Among those who are not afraid of getting sick, 30% support this idea, 67% do not support it.
Among those who approve of the president’s activities, half of the respondents (50%) support mandatory vaccination, slightly less (47%) do not support it. Among those who disapprove of Vladimir Putin’s activities, only 18% have a positive attitude to this idea, 79% – negatively.
Half (52%) of those who are against mandatory vaccination believe that people should have the right to choose and everyone should decide for himself whether to get vaccinated or not. Another 18% emphasize that the vaccine has not yet been fully studied, there may be side effects. 12% do not see the point of getting vaccinated.

66% of Russians believe that vaccination should be voluntary. 14% believe that vaccination should be mandatory for certain groups of citizens – for example, doctors, educators, transport and trade workers. 19% are sure that vaccination should be mandatory for everyone, except for those who have contraindications.
The wording of the questions was compiled together with the “Open Media”
This survey was conducted June 24 – 30 2021, among a representative sample of all Russian urban and rural residents. The sample was comprised of 1630 people aged 18 or older in 137 municipalities of 50 regions of the Russian Federation. The survey was conducted as a personal interview in respondents’ homes. The answer distribution is presented as percentages of the total number of participants along with data from previous surveys.
The statistical error of these studies for a sample of 1600 people (with a probability of 0.95) does not exceed:
3.4% for indicators around 50%
2.9% for indicators around 25%/75%
2.0% for indicators around 10%/90%
1.5% for indicators around 5%/95%
