People in power

More than half of Russians (56%) believe that the current people in power are concerned only with their financial and career well-being. This indicator has been growing over the past few years and reached the level of 2011 (54%). Only 16% believe that they are a good team leading the country in the right way – the lowest point since 2013.

Approximately the same proportions of Russians aged 18-24, 25-39 and 40-54 believe that people in power are concerned only with their financial and career well-being – 59%, 61% and 62%, respectively. The opinion that this is a good team of politicians is most common among respondents aged 55 years and older: 21%.

The majority of voters of all opposition parties believe that the people in power are concerned only with their personal well-being. The Communist Party voters are especially radical in this belief – 78%. Among the voters of United Russia, this point of view has only 26% of support. 39% of United Russia voters believe that this is a good team of politicians who are leading the country on the right course.

Methodology

This survey was conducted September 23 – 29 2021, among a representative sample of all Russian urban and rural residents. The sample consisted of 1634 people aged 18 or older in 137 municipalities of 50 regions of the Russian Federation. The survey was conducted as a personal interview in respondents’ homes. The answer distribution is presented as percentages of the total number of participants along with data from previous surveys.

The statistical error of these studies for a sample of 1600 people (with a probability of 0.95) does not exceed:

3.4% for indicators around 50%

2.9% for indicators around 25%/75%

2.0% for indicators around 10%/90%

1.5% for indicators around 5%/95%
