The film “Palace for Putin”

26% of the adult population have seen the film “Palace for Putin”. 10% more are familiar with its content, but have not seen it, and 32% have heard of it without the details. 31% have not heard anything about the film. “The palace for Putin” was watched by much more respondents than the film “Don’t call him Dimon” in 2017: then only 7% of respondents watched the investigation, and the majority (62%) did not hear about it at all.  

Younger people watched the film more often – 37% in the 18-24 age group, least often – respondents aged 55 and older (23%). Among those for whom television is the main source of news, 19% watched the film. Among those who consider social networks as the main source of information – 36%, Internet publications – 39%, Telegram channels – 61%. Among those who approve of the president’s activities, only 18% have seen the film. Among those who disapprove, 43% saw it.

Have you heard about the recently released on the Internet film “Palace for Putin” made by Alexey Navalny and Anti-Corruption Foundation?

The vast majority of those who watched the film, know its content, or at least heard about it (77%) did not change their attitude towards the president after the premiere. For17%, the attitude worsened, for 3% it improved.

Has your attitude towards Vladimir Putin changed after this film?

One-third (33%) of those who have seen the film, know the content or have heard about it believe that the information in the film is untrue. Thirty-eight percent (38%) believe that what is said is true, but it is difficult to assess the credibility of the accusations. 17% are confident that the information in the film is true. 59% of respondents aged 18-24 believe that the information from the film seems correct, 23% are sure of its truthfulness. Half of the respondents (49%) aged 55 and older believe that the information in the film is untrue.

Do you think the content in this film is true?

Almost a third of respondents (29%) believe that Vladimir Putin has never abused his power. Another 24% are sure that even if such accusations are true, the country began to live better under his rule. 17% believe that Vladimir Putin is definitely guilty of abuses, 25% – that he is guilty as much as other high-ranking officials.

Do you think Vladimir Putin is guilty of the abuses of power that his opponents accuse him of?

Young people (18-24 years old) are more confident that the president is guilty – 25%. The respondents aged 55 and older are the least likely to think so (13%). TV viewers are least sure of this – 11%, those who read Internet publications and telegram channels  are the most sure of the president’s guiltiness –  25% and 35%, respectively.

This survey was conducted January 29 – February 2, 2021, among a representative sample of all Russian urban and rural residents. The sample was comprised of 1600 people aged 18 or older in 137 municipalities of 50 regions of the Russian Federation. The survey was conducted as a personal interview in respondents’ homes. The answer distribution is presented as percentages of the total number of participants along with data from previous surveys.

The survey of 2017 was conducted March 31 – April 3, 2017, among a representative sample of all Russian urban and rural residents. The sample was comprised of 1616 people aged 18 or older in 137 municipalities of 48 regions of the Russian Federation. The survey was conducted as a personal interview in respondents’ homes. The answer distribution is presented as percentages of the total number of participants along with data from previous surveys.

The statistical error of these studies for a sample of 1600 people (with a probability of 0.95) does not exceed:

3.4% for indicators around 50%

2.9% for indicators around 25%/75%

2.0% for indicators around 10%/90%

1.5% for indicators around 5%/95%
