Half of Russians (48%) would like to see Vladimir Putin as president of Russia after 2024. 41% would not. These figures have changed within the statistical error compared to last year: in 2021, 46% supported the extension of powers, while 40% did not support it.

Among the young people (aged 18-24), however, more than a half (57%) would not like to see Vladimir Putin as president after 2024; 31% would. For people aged 55 and older these figures were 31% and 59%, respectively.
Among the most frequent reasons why people want to see Vladimir Putin as president after 2024 are recognition of his services to the country (30%), recognition of his personal merits (25%), and a good foreign policy (19%).

Opponents of V. Putin’s presidency after 2024 most often point to the too long period of rule (21%), the need for a change of power (19%), social problems (14%), and the age of the politician (11%).

More than half (53%) of respondents among those who do not want V. Putin to be president after 2024 intend to vote for another candidate in the elections. Another 30% do not intend to attend the elections. 7% are set on protest actions, and 5% will leave the country.

This survey was conducted February 18 – 24, 2021, among a representative sample of all Russian urban and rural residents. The sample was comprised of 1601 people aged 18 or older in 137 municipalities of 50 regions of the Russian Federation. The survey was conducted as a personal interview in respondents’ homes. The answer distribution is presented as percentages of the total number of participants along with data from previous surveys.
The statistical error of these studies for a sample of 1600 people (with a probability of 0.95) does not exceed:
3.4% for indicators around 50%
2.9% for indicators around 25%/75%
2.0% for indicators around 10%/90%
1.5% for indicators around 5%/95%
