Левада-Центр : Approval of institutions and ratings of politicians: February 2023

In February, the approval ratings of the main public authorities remain consistently high. The approval rates of the State Duma and the government have slightly increased, as well as confidence that things are going in the right direction in the country. The ratings of leading politicians have not changed significantly over the past month.

At the end of February, compared with January, the proportion of those who believe that things are going in the right direction in the country increased slightly. If at the end of last month there were 66%, then this month — 68%. 21% of respondents believe that the country is moving on the wrong path (in January – 24%). The growth of this indicator has been going on for several months.

The level of approval (70%) of Mikhail Mishustin’s activities as prime minister remained at the January level. For those who disapprove of his work as prime minister, it has dropped from 23% in January to 20% this month.

The assessment of the activity of the heads of regions remains at the January level: 70% approve, about a quarter (24%) disapprove.

The share of respondents approving the activities of the lower house of Parliament has increased. If in January the work of the State Duma was positively assessed by 55%, negatively – by 40%, then in February – by 59% and 34%, respectively.

According to an open question (respondents were asked to name several politicians they most trusted) in February, the level of trust in the main political figures remained at the January level: 43% trust Vladimir Putin, Mikhail Mishustin – 17%, Sergey Lavrov – 15%, Sergei Shoigu – 12%. Only the level of trust in Gennady Zyuganov increased slightly – from 4% to 5%.

METHODOLOGY

The All-Russian Levada Center survey was conducted on February 21-28, 2023 on a representative All—Russian sample of urban and rural population of 1,626 people aged 18 years and older in 137 localities, 50 subjects of the Russian Federation. The study is conducted at the respondent’s home by a personal interview method. The distribution of responses is given as a percentage of the total number.

The statistical error in the sample of 1600 people (with a probability of 0.95) does not exceed:

3.4% for indicators close to 50%

2.9% for indicators close to 25% / 75%

2.0% for indicators close to 10% / 90%

1.5% for indicators close to 5% / 95%
