The election of the President of the Russian Federation. Data from the survey February 21-28

At the end of February, 90% of Russians knew about the upcoming presidential elections, while about a third of the respondents did not follow the course of the election campaign. Three quarters of Russians were going to take part in the presidential elections. Those who were going to vote were guided by a sense of duty and a desire to support their candidate. The majority of respondents were planning to vote for Vladimir Putin. Also, the majority of respondents had a positive attitude to the three-day and remote voting procedures, citing convenience. However, this was largely determined by the respondent’s general attitude towards the government.

How Russians see the results of 2022

For the majority of respondents, 2022 turned out to be more difficult than the previous one, it seemed more difficult “for the country” than for the respondents personally. By many indicators, 2020, 1998 and the first half of the 1990s seemed more difficult for Russians at the time than the outgoing 2022. The majority rated it as “average”, a third – as “bad”. At the same time, more than half of respondents called 2022 a successful year for themselves, and a third called it unsuccessful. Among the main events of the year, respondents noted the “special operation” and related events. The respondents were also asked to name the person of the year, the main film and TV series of the year.

Equity in the provision of medical care

50% (16% less than in 2011) of Russians consider it unfair that rich people can provide their children with better medical care compared to poor ones. The share of respondents who completely disagree with the fact that the state should provide a set of only basic medical services has increased by 8% – up to 36%. 53% (an increase of 6%) of respondents are absolutely not ready to pay higher taxes to improve medical care for the entire population of Russia.

Events of the month

In January, the most outstanding events for Russians were the protests in Kazakhstan and the entry of CSTO troops into the country (22%), as well as the situation around Ukraine (21%). The events related to the coronavirus worried respondents less: the appearance of a new strain, vaccination and QR codes were noted by 14% of respondents.
